IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
The IELTS test format is the same all over the world, including Russia. There are two versions of the test: Academic and General Training.
⚫ Academic: This is for those who want to study at universities or colleges where English is the language of instruction.
⚫ General Training: This is for those who want to emigrate to an English-speaking country or who need English for work purposes.
The test is divided into four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each section is marked on a band score from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest). The overall band score is the average of the four section scores.
Listening-
⚫ 40 minutes
⚫ Four recordings from a variety of native-speaker accents, on topics of general interest
⚫ A variety of question types, including multiple choice, matching, and sentence completion
Reading-
⚫ 60 minutes
⚫ Three long reading passages on academic or training topics
⚫ A variety of question types, including multiple choice, matching, and yes/no
Writing-
⚫ 60 minutes
⚫ Two writing tasks
⚫ Task 1: A descriptive task based on a graph, chart, table, or diagram (Academic) or a letter (General Training)
⚫ Task 2: An essay writing task in response to a point of view, argument, or problem
Speaking-
⚫ 11-14 minutes
⚫ An individual interview with an examiner
⚫ Three parts: an introduction and interview, an individual long turn, and a two-way discussion

⚫ The test is offered in over 60 test centres in Russia.
⚫ The test fees are the same as in other countries.
⚫ The results are usually available within 5-7 days of the test date.
