SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)


The Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung (ZMP), also known as the Central Intermediate Examination, is a standardized German language proficiency test for non-native speakers. Syllabus:

Listening Comprehension:
⚫ Understanding short dialogues and monologues on familiar topics.
⚫ Understanding the main points and specific information in longer texts (interviews, news reports, etc.).
⚫ Ability to understand different accents and speech styles.

Reading Comprehension:
⚫ Reading and understanding authentic texts (articles, reports, emails, etc.) on various topics.
⚫ Understanding the main ideas, details, opinions, and arguments presented in the texts.
⚫ Understanding vocabulary in context.

Writing:
⚫ Writing coherent texts such as emails, letters, essays, reports, and summaries.
⚫ Expressing opinions, arguments, and ideas clearly and logically.
⚫ Using appropriate language structures, vocabulary, and style for different types of writing tasks.

Speaking:
⚫ Participating in conversations and discussions on familiar and abstract topics.
⚫ Presenting information, opinions, and arguments in a structured and coherent manner.
⚫ Responding appropriately to questions and comments from the examiner and other candidates.

⚫ Pattern:

Listening Comprehension (Hörverstehen):
⚫ Duration: Approximately 30 minutes.
⚫ Multiple-choice questions based on recorded dialogues, monologues, and announcements.

Reading Comprehension (Leseverstehen):
⚫ Duration: Approximately 50 minutes.
⚫ Multiple-choice questions, true/false statements, and short answer questions based on authentic texts.

Writing (Schriftlicher Ausdruck):
⚫ Duration: Approximately 70 minutes.
⚫ Writing tasks such as emails, letters, reports, essays, or summaries.

Speaking (Mündliche Prüfung):
⚫ Duration: Approximately 15-20 minutes per candidate.
⚫ Conversation with an examiner, individual presentation, and discussion with another candidate.

The ZMP aims to assess candidates' ability to communicate effectively in German in various real-life situations. It evaluates linguistic accuracy, fluency, coherence, and communicative competence.
